Twilight Garden Tour Features Specialists, Displays and Demonstrations

​On August 24, starting at 4:00 pm to 7:30 pm; the Spooner Agriculture Research Station and North Country Master Gardener Volunteers will host their annual Twilight Garden Tour.  We have now confirmed the speakers, displays and demonstrations.  There will be no tastings this year as a COVID precaution.  

Featured Speakers (from left to right) 

• Renae Essenmacher, Forester for WI Dept of Natural Resources, focuses on area trees.
• Rue Genger, Associate Researcher at UW-Madison, Dept of Horticulture, will talk about the Seed to Kitchen Collaborative (SKC) vegetable evaluation trials, how SKC links growers and plant breeders with chefs and regional seed companies, and how to get involved with SKC. 
• Brian Smith, professor at UW- River Falls will discuss the latest with growing fruits and vegetables.

Displays & Demonstrations

• Horticulture Inquiry Station: UW Specialists and Master Gardener Volunteers will be available to answer your questions.
  
• Preserving Garden Produce:  Get access to the many resources of the UW-Madison Horticulture on the preservation of this year’s harvest.
  
• Foodwise: see the nutrition education resources available from this Extension program at the individual, community, and systems levels.
  
• Hunt Hill Audubon Sanctuary:  Find out more about this 600-acre nature preserve and learning center in Sarona.
  
• Learn about Soils & Soil Testing:  With soil sampling season right around the corner, it may be time to check your supplies of sampling materials and what you can do to improve your soil.
  
• How to Become a Master Gardener Volunteer:   Learn more about this volunteering opportunity and educational resource.
  
• Seed to Kitchen Collaborative: Connects plant breeders focused on organic systems to Wisconsin farmers and chefs, to create delicious, well-adapted vegetable dishes.
  
• Guided Garden Plots:  Master Gardener Volunteers and UW staff will be available to show what’s been growing well this year and the new All-America Selections that have been trialed.
